PFLAG Meeting

If you are interested in attending you will need to contact us for more information      Ph: 0401057230

Baylins Gift is always trying to find ways in which we can support our LGBTQI youth. We feel that even though this is a main goal of ours, we fall very short. We have found it very difficult to get anything started because those that have come out are comfortable in their own skin, but the ones who we need to target have not come out openly and that is the problem for us. So we have to find another way to get things going.

We are really excited, and proud, to be starting a Kempsey PFLAG. For people who are not aware, PFLAG stands for Parents, Family and friends of Lesbians and Gays. The sole purpose of this organisation is to keep families together. You can find further information on the amazing work they do here: http://pflagaustralia.org.au/about

We are extremely privileged to have 4 people from PFLAG joining us for, not only our It's OK on the Macleay event on Sunday, but also speaking at our first PFLAG meeting on Saturday night. ACON are also attending and speaking on how best we can support our young person in their journey. We will also have parents speaking on their perspective. This will be a great night, the beginning of a support system for not only parents and friends, but also the young LGBTQI kids in our community. We envision these meetings are also for those parents who believe their child may be LGBTQI, but have not come out yet. You may find ways you can support them so they feel comfortable with who they are and help make this a less traumatic event.

Our future hope for Kempsey PFLAG, is that we can also connect young people through their parents meeting, and create a support network for themselves. A place they know they are safe, and valued, and allowed to be exactly who they are without judgement.

Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you feel may be interested.

WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY

Once again Baylin's Gift will be running this years World Suicide Prevention Day on Sunday 10th September from 10am til 1pm.

This year we aim to acknowledge and remember those we have lost to suicide, those who have attempted suicide and also those who are suicidal. This event is also for those wishing to simply raise awareness and provide support on such an important topic.

We will be holding a free BBQ, lighting LED candles for those we've lost to suicide, holding a short walk of remembrance, having some amazing guest speakers, including Adam Williams the recently awarded Best Photographer of NSW.

We are also very lucky this year to have some local organisations join us with resources that promote locally accessible  programs. This includes Lifeline, Key Employment, Ability Links and Standby Suicide Response. We are grateful to these organisations for promoting awareness and encouraging support within our community. Well done.

We encourage anyone wanting to support others around suicide and mental illness to come along on the day. You're most welcome.

SWR Horseshoe Bay Markets

Loving the extra markets over the holiday period.

New Baylin's Gift bracelets are here. Still selling our tie dye shirts and bags.

Small children's shirts will be ready by mid January. A lot of people have been asking for those. Also tie dye socks. And a new range of jute bags for those not wanting to rock a tie dye one.

A big thank you must go out to the committee of these markets as they offer us a site for free because we are a charity. This is very generous and saves us heaps. Thank you.

We'll be at the Kempsey Riverside Markets again this month. We are hoping to make this a regular occurrence. So you'll know where we will always be.

Don't forget we always bring along 1 or 2 comfort boxes if you feel this is something that may benefit you. Just come up and speak to one of our friendly team.

We also have our bracelets with the new logo.

Always know that anything you spend with us stays here to help our kids. It does not go anywhere else. Ever. Our kids are important to us. They are our focus.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
